Dragon Quest XI S

The hallmark JRPG franchise, Dragon Quest, comes to Nintendo Switch tomorrow. Debuting with the latest title in this illustrious series, Dragon Quest XI S features over 100 hours of gameplay in addition to new content. Previously unavailable in its initial release, the Switch version will receive new story development, a full orchestral soundtrack, a “retro” mode, and much more!

Nintendo tweeted out some of the new features you’ll find in the game. The retro mode will take you into a 16-bit audiovisual style. Plus you can visit Dragon Quest worlds of the past.

Featuring eight playable characters, Dragon Quest XI allows you to mix and match your party as they join your cause. As the Luminary, you’ll attract many friendly faces who will want to help bring peace back to the world. With that said, you’ll also learn of their pasts. New to Dragon Quest XI S feature new character scenarios expanding on their role in the plot.

How Good is Dragon Quest XI?

From personal experience, I can say this is one of the best games I’ve played in the past decade. In terms of JRPGs, it stacks right up with Persona 5 for best JRPG of the generation. Given that it’s been made in 16-bit, 3DS, and HD mode, the game was practically made three times. Plus this version gives it a complete polish. Therefore, you get the definitive version on Switch.

With over 100 hours of gameplay, everything paced itself just right. You won’t find pointless fetch quests or forced backtracking. Instead, you’ll experience a great adventure through the lush, gorgeous world of Erdrea with a beautiful soundtrack. You’ll also encounter some amazing characters and shocking plot twists. Personally, I cannot recommend it enough.

Dragon Quest XI S

Having beaten it on PS4, I strongly recommend picking up the Switch version just for all the added content and improvements. I went through the entire game to find a balanced challenge, different ways to customize my party, and explored some wonderful locales. When it was all said and done, Dragon Quest XI became one of the best games I had ever played.
