Obsidian Entertainment’s highly anticipated computer role playing game Pillars of Eternity 2 – Deadfire, which was originally supposed to come out on April 3 2018 has been pushed back to May of this year. This delay is due to team deciding to add more polish to the game based on feedback from the backer beta they released earlier. Obsidian had this to say about the matter;

As you have probably guessed, Deadfire is a huge game — significantly larger than the original Pillars of Eternity. Obsidian has been working harder than Abydon himself to make every inch of it awesome, as well as incorporating all the great feedback we have been getting from everyone playing the Backer Beta.

With this in mind, we are taking just a few extra weeks to polish and put those finishing touches on the game.”

Delays are a common sight in the video game industry, especially in the case of sprawling open-ended rpgs. This gives the developers enough time to conduct more tests and add more polish to the rough edges. The first game in the Pillars series, was too delayed a several months before release.  A one month delay is not exactly intolerable, but Obsidian has promised to make up for it with “plenty of Deadfire-related news and content” over the coming weeks and months.

Pillars Of Eternity II: Deadfire is coming to Windows, Mac, and Linux via Steam and GOG, priced at £33/€46/$50/₹1099 on May 8, 2018.
